Closing the Storefront

All dreams die hard.  From my work as a bookkeeper I have seen others go through the process of closing a business.  Each time the pain of the process became very evident to  me.  Those experiences helped pave the path for me as I had to make the recent difficult decision to end our community bookstore days.

So the storefront is closed now.   The new door that God as opened is an opportunity to come along side some friends who run a coffee shop.  They have opened up an opportunity for me to help with reading and literature events.

So one door closed and a new one opening up.  Praise Jesus.

the book signing went well.  Our Thanks to the staff at Sentinel-Standard.

Mr. Cumings shared stories and insights from his book and announced his work on a sequel to the story of, Ellie, the main character.  Mr. Cumings was able to ask those who came by the bookstore to forward their personal impressions after reading this story.    If you missed the signing and would like more information send us a note.  We will forward your inquiry to him.

thanks and we look forward to seeing you at our next book signing.

Yes, I'm Dean Cumings, author, historian, and all-around nice guy. Hmmm…

Yep… The site of our new book, Ellie A Pioneer Girl’s Journey West 1845.

This site will describe some of what we’re doing now, since I’m supposed to be retired. I don’t really believe in so-called retirement. Rather I prefer to call it “re-tryment.” Which means—if truth be told—I’m busier now than before.

Finally, I’m catching up on several projects, some of which were started years ago and some we just initiated –projects such as writing to be published, sorting and utilizing photography, getting rid of a myriad of books, sporting gear, and leftovers. Of course, downsizing is always hard when we move from a large house to an apartment/living area, in a Walton’s style Grandma-Grandpa live-in with Kids and Grandkids (yes, at their request.)

Coming to our bookstore in February.     http://www.deancumings.com/
